Home buyer demand for high-performing homes – homes that are comfortable, healthy, and energy efficient and/or generate and store energy – has grown steadily for decades. However, buyers have a hard time finding these homes. When high-performing homes are sold, they are rarely marketed as such. When they walk through a high-performing home, they may never learn about its “invisible” technical features, such as its air sealing, highly efficient cooling system, or “performance testing.” If buyers had a clear understanding of the benefits and features of high-performing homes, evidence suggests that they would pay more for them. 

What we need to do: Make high-performing homes and home features visible to the market. Quantify the value that a high-performing verification adds to a home with a Pearl Certification. A Pearl Certification provides a detailed, easy to understand report (certification) on the depth and breadth of a homes high-performing features. This is extremely important at the time of resale as many MLS’s don’t yet have all the necessary fields to effectively market this type of home. By uploading the Pearl Certification into the MLS as a supporting document, and the certification certificate into the photo gallery, it brings visibility to many of the high performing features of a home that would otherwise be overlooked.
